Meeting Minutes 11/2/00

MCCC Board Present: Judy, Sarah, Josie, Eric, Linda

MCCC Building Committee Present: CC Emlen, Olivia Gay, Steve Gallagher, John McCullough, Davis Cherington

Discussion of options for improving the building either so that upstairs may be opened or so that new addition can replace upstairs. If former, fire escape could be on the south gable end of the building or on the back. Either way we need a Labor & Industry permit (all set if on back) and a Town of Calais permit. Discussion of need for handicap access to upstairs - may be financially unrealistic at this time. Board favors making the fire escape wide enough to be a legal means of egress for handicapped individuals anyway, in case of fire. We currently have about $22,600 in the building fund ($18,000 grant and 4,600 fundraisers.) An addition would cost about $50,000. Building committee had a list of necessary and wished for repairs, and quite a few could be accomplished with current money if we build an inexpensive fire escape. Discussed priority for fire escape, weatherizing the basement and first floor, and other repairs. Appointed committee to oversee building projects: Olivia Gay, Steve Gallagher, CC Emlen, John McCullough. Appointed fundraising committee to continue fundraising for building projects: CC Emlen, Davis Cherington, Sarah Gallagher.

Need to set up regular schedule to clean the building thoroughly - Eric will do this.

Suzy Wahlrab had a question about rental costs: Judy will call her and clarify.

Judy, Linda & Josie will work on a winter calendar of events.

Sarah will check with Lori Bayne and Jill Schultz re: wreathmaking and kids Xmas party.

We have four volunteers to take responsibility for ensuring that building is heated for rental/community events, and then properly closed up. Steve Gallagher has been doing this. Suggest he train Eric Oberg, Olivia Gay and Davis Cherington, and that the four take turns having responsibility - perhaps for a month at a time. This assumes Josie will communicate dates of events with responsible person.
